One of the ways to bring your company’s core values to life is to notice real-world examples of those core values in action, outside the walls of your business. For example, one of our core values is Be Bold. For us we look to the great Mark Twain who said “Courage is not the absence of fear, it is acting in spite of it.”
The other night I came across a real-world example of Be Bold in action, while watching an episode of Marvel’s Hero Project on TV. Adonis Watt is a life-size, living, breathing, everyday example of Be Bold. He plays high school football which isn’t the amazing part. He’s a pretty good running back, having scored a couple of touchdowns, which is a couple more than I scored in high school, but that’s not the remarkable part either.
What’s remarkable and inspired about Adonis is that he’s blind. Yes, you read that right. It is worth 90 seconds to watch this video, check it out…
This clip is inspiring on its own, but if you watch the whole episode, you’ll find his parents wanted to keep pursuing medical interventions to “fix” Adonis, but he was bold enough to tell them that he didn’t need fixing, that he could compete and win (in life, not just football) just as he is. Now they support him as he works toward his dream of playing in the NFL. Talk about being bold!
